View Full Version : turbo d smoking like crazy

i have a d15b1 out of my brothers 92-95 civic LX sedan with about 200k miles on it turbod just for the hell of it.ok so first we started the motor without the turbo installed and i ran fine. no smoke or any thing. and then after i installed a DSM td05h turbo with all the oil and water lines connected correctly and we started her up and BAM white smoke everywhere. checked everything and it was fine. so i am guessing either a bad head gasket or the piston rings are bad. but it smokes more than when i had my LS turbo and the rings went bad. if you let it run for more than 10sec. it will be crazy and smoke would be everywhere. so if you have any suggestions they will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

Your turbo is shot. Cheap enough to just replace it. I wish I had some ghetto suggestions, but that's that.

What is the compression in each of the cylinders?
Do you have an AFR hooked up?
Does the smoke come from the exhaust or the turbo?

My guess is that if the motor was fine before the turbo, chances are the the turbo seals are bad and causing the smoke.

yea thats what i was thinking too. thanks for the replies now i gotta go look for another DSM turbo.

Or just remove the water lines and see what it does.

i'll try to remove the coolant line first but i'm pretty sure the turbo's shot
