I drive a 02 civic ex, my stock shocks and struts are leaking and they are shit. Im just looking for some pointers. I want to drop my car at some point with springs so I was thinking Tokico HP "blue shock" or Monroe. Does anyone have these brands in their car? any experience? I want some opinions before I decide to buy. Thanks guys! :mays:

I've had the Tokico HP "Blues" on my 88 Accord hatch, with Neuspeed Sport springs. They rode very nicely with the mild drop. For ride comfort they were great for what I spent back in 97.

I have the tokico illuminas with h&r springs. I personally like the ride but it could be a little bouncy at times for some people

Thanks a lot. I've been asking everyone I know for their opinion to narrow my selection. I'm leaning toward Tokico Hp blues with springs. Tien, H&R? I'm on a budget and havnt decided. the 7th gen forum im on doesnt really help me because everything they suggest is way out of my price range.

cant go wrong with tein. hr is good, although people say the springs start to sag after a while

Tokico blues and the Monroes are ok. They are basically just for normal use. Now a lot of people run on them and put coilovers on them, in all reality that is fine and your desicion. I have tokico illuminas and I fucking love them! Now, teins are sweet, but like you said, you are on a budget and I fully understand.
Personally, if you choose to go with the blues or monroes, I would just say, do not drop your car all the way. They are not the greatest of shocks and when you drop the car down on those lower end shocks, they have a greater potential to bottom out more, and break faster. just my two cents.

I have an 01 civic, tokico blues with springtech 1.5" drop. Mine is a bit stiff, not bouncy at all, almost a stock ride. Looks better, not aggressively droped.
I got a package deal on ebay. Installation was a PITA, had to cut some bolts off the rear. So far so good though.

I had tokico blues and tein s techs in my old civic and it rode almost better than stock... but tokico blues are just oem replacement shocks, they arent made for major drops or any performance handling.

I'm pretty sure they are rated for a 1.5" drop but I could be wrong... Its not like I drive a em2 with a K series swap and want the best I can get.. I drive a D17a2 haha, the oem stocks need to go so I'm looking for a good product that I can replace them with but still stay on my budget. I figured, hey, were doing struts and shocks, why not throw some springs on there.

Yeah if you just want a decent drop and a smooth ride go with tokico blues and s-techs. Cant go wrong.

Yeah pretty much. They are not rated for a drop. I've heard that tokico hp blues are oem replacements but I'm pretty sure they are rated for a drop whether they are considered oem or not.

I just had monroe struts replaced in my prelude. There is no drop, and I think that you were correct in saying that monroe is only for stock replacements. I had my struts and alignment done...and it feels like a brand new car again! $300 later!!!:thumb:

I hear the combo of HR with blues is bouncy from a few people. for springs i personally stick with neuspeed . in my civic im running KYB GR2's with Neuspeed Race Springs and its solid, not bouncy at all

I'm riding on KYB GR-2's and H&R OEM Sport Springs right now. Very nice for a DD, but I need something stiffer.

why not rebuild the alternator yourself? disassemble the thing and inspect the brushes, replace them if needed. AC Delco sells brush kits for <15$... sure has heck beats buying one for $100+ bs.

Any springs will give you a smoother ride over coilovers. As for the shock both you mention are good as long as you dont lower it too low causing the seals on the shock to blow. I personally say get monroes because you get a lifetime warranty.

or just save a little more and buy a used set of F2 type 1's full coilovers.

I have blues front and back with matching springs. These were made for an ef but, ive got them on my eg. Should have been an inch drop in back, 1.5 in front. On the eg it was more like a 2-2.5 drop. (Had to use ef front forks). I feel like they ride very nice. Stiffenough for control but, not super brutal either. Full set shipped for under $400, great setup on a budget.
