They start at about 800 lbs heavier than a CRX.

well we put it on the scales and that's what were going with dry anyway but we took alot of things out but I've decided to put some things back in so we will weigh it again once it's together again

Now that we've established 'taking stuff out of the car' doesn't eliminate 600lbs, what are some legit weight-saving ideas?

Really there is no real way to just cut fat off a car. You could pull out all the interior, heater, a/c, p/s, remove top, roof rack in trunk, start cutting things off the car. But.........

Is it really worth it? the answer is no. Just get some more HP and you will be fine. These aren't old american cars that are heavy pigs with shitty over weight EVERYTHING. So there is plenty of go kartness to them.

This is coming from a guy who had the most stripped you can get ef hatch. I refuse to gut a car now as there just isn't enough gain from doing so. I can toss on a turbo kit or even a nitrous kit for cheap and have way more potential for less time involved with a better driving car.
