so i was on my way home from the bank. and sitting at a light, it turned green, and the tires spun just a tiny bit and then all of a sudden there was this horrendous clunking, shuttery, knocking sound and feel. almost like teeth on the driveshaft getting chewed up or something. thankfully every light i hit was green, so i go to pull into the apt complex, and the car feels awful... like it was hesitant into the gears..
someone please help!! wtf is it

OMG.....you where able to drive? did it shift? Can't be a drive shaft if you where able to drive it back. Maybe your tranny.

Either a destroyed axle, or broken tranny. You can take a look at the axles, if it is that bad, it might be visually bad too..

yea, it drove, shifted, all fine as long as i didnt stop lol. cv shaft maybe?

assuming you were able to shift through the gears to get home, it could be anything. The description doesn't quite do it.

noise from which side? when you turn? shift? on clutch release?

wel i dont know what else to say that could be helpful... the tire slipped, and then came a big ol shutter followed by like 3 clunking noises.... i could feel it right in front of my feet and through the pedals as well. ?

i have to go to my parents for all that... i dont have anything at my apt.. =/
I had the same thing happen to me. I was at a stop sign and right when I pulled off. I heard a loud clunking noise like my tranny broke. I was able to move a little but not much. After I finally got it pulled over. I couldn't drive it anymore. It would just rev and gain speed in place.
Turns out that my passenger side axle popped out from the tranny. The front teeth of the axle was all warped off. replaced it and voila. works just fine now.

yep sounds to me like an axle issue. i had thisthis problem with my old coupe. is your car slammed? if it is them prolly and axle cv joint. if ya need an extra set i have a pair laying around my apt all with lifetime warrentys from napa. 80$ for both

hmm... see, when i first heard the devastation from inside lol i thought it might be an axle, but i know nothing about drivetrains so.. yea
ekhonda87
11-07-2008, 11:44 AM
Maybe a broken motor mount? That would be if the noise really was not coming from the drivetrain...

11-07-2008, 11:44 AM
lol yes its slammed... the guy i bought it from had coilover sleeves and the front it damn near rubbing =X

yeah slammed cars are really hard on axles as the angle at which the axle sits at is increased. think if you were to hold your arms up as high as possible and then move them in the a circular motion. then do that same motion with your arms downware or completely horizontal. see how long it takes for you to do both. it takes a lot more effort and to make that motion with them upward than it is to do it down. that cv joint has to continously adjust its angle as the suspension moves up and down. and left to right as the wheels turn. with that high axle angle your axles are screaming. the grease inside the boost heats up past its viscosity rating and will evenutally turn to a liquid grease and not properly function the way grease is supposed to perform. also when slamming a car you'll loose traction as your contact patch changes. and will loose some power transfered to the ground because your engine has to work a bit harded to overcome those increased drivetrain losses

either axle, or something around there must've broken, however if axle is fine ahaha, check your engine, transmission, etc. It can be anything at this point.

well... i just went out to take a look at it.. the boots and everything looked fine, and i couldnt feel any tears in them. but i did see that the rear motor mount is broke, and the pass side is cracked..
i would like to say its cuz the sheer power of honda lol but its from the guy who had it before me.. he swapped out the motors and all that jazz...

well on my coupe i broke an axle and nothing tore or ripped. the joint in the cv boost was gone. I cut the boot open and put my fingers in the grease and all i got was metal flakes and liquidy grease. looked like glitter. (hate that movie)

hmm...i see. well for sure i need mounts lol. i dont wanna cuz open the boots to find they're still good lol, so now what..?

11-07-2008, 03:23 PM
I bet it's the cv (constant velocity shaft) its the joint. or you might have stripped the axle teeth. but, CV because your so slammed and that the motor mounts was ripped, which, changed the position of how the engine was sitting. At idle does the engine sound okay?

You can clip the boot clamp, and pull it back to check it out.
Just remember to re-pack it before you seal it back up.

how hard is it to swap out axles? anyone know?
1. pull e-brake
2. jack up car
3. take off axle nut
4. take off lower balljoint nut
5. take apart lower ball joint
6. take out wishbone bolt
7. pull out axle
8. everything reverse
Make sure that one side of the car is high up in the air so that you loose a minimal amout of oil out of the tranny.

no mounts attach to the firewall.. if its the rear 1 it sits on top of the crossmember..

11-16-2008, 08:14 PM
alright so today i finally got the shit taken care of, and the teg is rollin again =) shit was a royal pain in the ass though... my car sits too low to get the jack under the car at any point, with the exception of the very rear. so i had to roll up on some boards and a brick just to fit the jack under it... lol and then once i was under the hood puttin in the bolt, guess what i spy chillin below the bracket, kinda stuck.... the fuckin bolt i needed!
