K so I'm just posting Wat I did tonight merely for ...A): entertaninment B): help/suggestions.

I have a b18b1 block assembled with forged pistons as rods and polished crank. Acl bearings. Never rebuilt an engine in my life. Went to pull the crank out after taking main caps off becuz I forgot the thrust washers....tried to pull up crank with pistons and Rods still attached. I was trying I slip thrust washers under and in (horrible idea)...dropped thrust wager on bottom of piston. Used a magnet. Ended up taking crank out just to realize that one of my pistons pulled out too far towards the crank side or the block that the rings popped out on one side. NOW I cant get the piston back down without breaking the rings or something. For those of u who know...the girdle That the crank lays in is flat on the sides so the piston comes out one way AND I can't get a piston ring compressor over it. So.. Congrats. I'm an idiot. New rings on the way...gonna wrk on it tonight a little :/ fml!!!!

You have to pull the head there is no way to get it in from the bottom without toasting the ring set

break the rings. only way to get them out now. Don't want to try to force them back through the sleeves and scar up the walls. I'm hoping you gapped the rings and clearenced the bearings?

Head isn't on yet. And ya I night new rings already cuz I figured id have to :/ I did plastigage bearings. Actually had someone help me assemble it. But idk if he gapped the rings. Bout to ask him . How do u even do it and how should I go about carefully breaking these rings?? Thanks for ur help!!

I've been known in the past to measure the first ring out the box, call it within spec, and run it with amazing cylinder pressures. I can't recommend anything I do, but why can't you pull the piston out the pan side and re-install through the top with ring compressor??

Hard to explain if u've never seen it...basically on this particular block and probably others... On the pan/crank side...under the piston the hole is. Asically a circle with flat sides so u would be trying to pull a circle through a small square??? Does that even make sense? I'm stoned...but it sounds right . I'll take a picture or something

No room to multiple flat head screwdriver the bottom ring to cooperate? At least get it to the top to inspect.

Long story...basically I was trying to maybe keep the rods attached and just pull up on the crank to slide in the thrust washers. Bad idea...I knew I shouldn't have attempted to work on that shit myself..... :'( bringing it to my pals at the machine shop. Yessiree

Ya someone I worked with did. More of a domestic guy.. It's Watevs. Cuz now I got to learn that lesson. And also got to tear it apart myself without putting the motor in and THEN caused damage..so it's ok.

We are stuck at the gapping ring part. I went over there the other day to help out but we didn't have an adequate method for filing the rings down. She is going to get a dremo tool and go from there. (Stores where closed when we went to try to get one)

Thanks to Jake we were able to figure out the correct gap for the rings. Hopefully this shit gets done soon and we will have another boosted Honda on the roads.

I seem to remember Oriellys has ring gap grinders for rent. More importantly, I've never seen rings gapped with anything other than hand operation, so why this would take 8 days to do is confusing.

It should take you longer to install the ring over and over and measure it than time actually grinding it.

A dremel tool works just fine with the right grinder attachment. I have done this before with no issues and cars still running strong. The grinder wheel is the same material as that as a ring grinder... it's just a different method of spinning the grinder wheel. Maybe I guess most people don't have hands steady enough to use a dremel. But it works. Let's just not argue about this. She is getting it done and that is what matters. I am just glad she is gapping them because they werent gap before and they were only at .010". Good way to throw a rod on the dyno is what that is.

Wtf is this thread heading to? If you have never file rings before or have someone who has done it before supervise then leave it alone and pay someone to do it right. Honestly, filing rings isn't rocket science but it does take finesse to get it file square. If you plan on doing this yourself then grab a bunch of used piston rings and practice on them til you can get them gap good enough. Last thing you want to happen is either break a piston ringland(s) or way too much blow-bys. Other things can also happen as well so take your time to do it right.

Whatever I guess I get my teg back either today or tomorrow and I will be boosting soon/racing and enjoying life. I just can't believe she believes some rumors about me and doesn't care enough to actually take the time to get to know me to see what I am about.

It seems like every other guy in the car scene is a "player" besides Me, Brad and Jerry (no offense to anyone) and I am not saying this to try to make myself look better then any other guy out there. Maybe I will just get out of the car scene so I'm not labled as a sterotype of this bullshit.
