View Full Version : Lost My Tune?

So I did some wiring under the dash the other day and disconnected my car battery. I made the mistake of leaving the battery disconnected over night. Now the Vtec won't engage and the CEL is throwing code# 8 wich is TDC sensor. I'm running a p72 using Chrome for the tune. I'm assuming that in accidentally resetting my ECU, my original tune was wiped. I'm also assuming the Vtec won't engage because the reset ECU won't recognize the advanced timing and is throwing the code. It's the only explanation I can come up with. Does this make any sense? :mad1:

errr... you can't erase your tune just buy resetting ECU.
Either your ECU is fired or your chip is bad... but you can't just delete a map on a chip.

Good to hear. I had someone telling me otherwise. I'll have to look into other issues then.

why did you disconnect your battery overnight?

Too many rolling rocks lol. Forgot to hook it back up after wiring some gauges in.

Either got a wiring issue or bad distributor.

Yeah I was just thinking I could of knocked a wire loose when I was feeding wires down the side of the dash for the gauges. I guess I'll have to go over the wires one by one... Don't drink and tune. :poo:

I wanted to follow up on this. I called Full Blown and asked if a full ECU reset can effect the tune and was told that yes it can. I'm not sure about how or why. Anyway, I'm scheduled for a re-tune in a few weeks, which is fine I kinda wanted to do it anyway since there's been a few changes to the motor since the last tune. Wish me luck!

That's incorrect.
The reason your vtec isn't engaging is because the CEL for tdc sensor.
If it still doesn't work once tdc is fixed, check your vtec wiring, vtec screen, and of course oil level/pressure.

Yeah I'm still going to check the dizzy out and see if it needs to be replaced. Might as well check the wiring too. But I'm getting confused by all the conflicting answers on this lol.

It just seems too coincidental that all these problems started after the ECU reset.

So per the manual I checked continuity between terminals 3&7 which are the terminals for the TDC sensor and there was none so good. I checked the resistance on the same terminals and it was 380 Ohms so good. What else is left? The wiring going to the harness?

I wanted to follow up on this. After hours of beating my head on the wall and going over everything with a fine toothed comb, it turned out to be a corroded plug wire that was broken off in the distributor cap. I replaced the plug wires, cap, and rotor and the code is gone. Not sure how it threw CEL 8, don't care, it's fixed lol.
