I picked up this car back in 2007 from the U of M with less than 100 total miles on it since it was donated new back in 1986 from Bloomington Acura. The car was used as a kinesiology drunk driving simulation car without any running gear and a whole bunch of sensors and stuff wired up in it. At the time, I was rebuilding a motor from my first car which was a 1988 Integra and had to pick it up since it made so much sense. (sorry for the crappy cell phone pictures)
Here's how it sits now:

So here's the plan:
I picked up all the necessary parts for a B-swap:
http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/ac69/rraisedhaze/2011-05-18_21-29-36_14.jpg?t=1306903130
Then I hit up PJ for this motor:

http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/ac69/rraisedhaze/2011-05-31_22-25-39_397.jpg?t=1306903228
...and this tranny:
http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/ac69/rraisedhaze/2011-05-29_17-48-34_140.jpg?t=1306903280
...to replace this:
http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/ac69/rraisedhaze/2011-05-31_20-04-13_515.jpg?t=1306903330
I will update with progress when I remember to, but I just started getting situated in the shop tonight:

It should be fun and it hopefully goes smoothly, but wiring is my biggest fear.

The side skirts were way easier to find than the optional center arm rest, lol. I am going to take a front lip and modify it slightly to fit on the rear as well. I have just been too busy/lazy lately to mount the body pieces. Getting in the motor is my #1 priority right now - well, that and getting gsrintegra175's car put back together so he can help me with some of the custom fabrication.

Sweet progress, Swap looks great in there.
Considering how clean the car is I would do something about that bare metal where you had to cut it because it will start to rust faster than you think, I had to do something similar to mine for clearance and its starting to rust already after a year.

That's just a test fit right now. I'm working on the wire harness while it's in there, but we will be welding in some metal then spraying the bay so there wont be any bare metal. I have some other holes I need to fill too before I spray it as well.
Also, this is a summer only car. It has/will never see a winter.

I got the harness wired up for all the OBD-corrected plugs.
OBD0 car (changed from 86 integra wiring to upgraded MPFI system from 88 integra)
OBD2 GSR Motor
Wired with OBD2 plugs for alternator, Dizzy, fan, etc.
OBD1 ECU so it will run OBD1
http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/ac69/rraisedhaze/2011-11-13_22-23-32_251.jpg
I tried to start it last night and couldn't get the fuel pump to prime. I found that power for the Fuel Pump Relay was coming from the ECU, but no power was getting to the plug on the fuel pump.
Update:
All the wiring is correct leading to the main relay as well as at the ECU as indicated by some work with the multimeter. The pump does run, but I think it's on it's last leg. I'm going to order an inline Walbro 255 lph fuel pump and give that a shot.
raisedhaze
11-18-2011, 08:40 AM
Ok, so I found out that I had a bad ground at the main relay on the harness. I ghetto wired a piggytail off of the main harness plug to the body and now it primes, cranks fine, and I have spark. I still have more troubleshooting to do before it will be running, but I think there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I got it running smooth finally with an automatic P06 ecu from a 93 civic. The instructions from Rywire were a bit off on the distributor :poo:, but C-roy saved me again by getting back to basics with some continuity testing. I'm still in the market for a chipped P72 or equivalent chipped P28. It has to be a manual ECU.
We might pull the motor today so I can get started dressing up the bay. :hyper:

honestly don't by a turbo "kit" because it won't fit right in your car anyways.
for sure charge piping, dp will have to be custom...

yeah, you're probably right. I just like the idea of getting a manifold, intercooler, turbo, BOV, wategate, and some extras in a bundle to save some cost. I am not looking to make a ton of power, but I don't like putting poor quality parts on anything I own.
Charlie Moua
12-22-2011, 07:10 PM
trust me most "kits" are not high qaulity.
have croy and jordan piece together a kit for you with nice quality parts and color scheme of your choice. Have jordan weld up some ss charge piping for you or regular alumin charge piping and I can powder coat it for you at my cost.
Because your not looking for more than 350whp (i take it)...
IMHO the only thing you need to allocate your money towards qaulity is to the turbo.
Cheers boss , lmk if you need help finding parts, pictures, info towards your build.

I got the clutch master set up on the pedal assembly yesterday. I ended up cutting the part the cable mounts to down a bit so the ratio was correct for the stroke of the cylinder I was using. The rest was just playing around with steel until it all fit right.

I was reading some stuff and about those rods being same stroke as other dseries and much thicker.
There were 160,000 miles on the original D16A1 motor when it was initially pulled and rebuilt. I put in some nippon pistons and upped the compression a bit. It was run for about 300 miles before it was pulled, due to some titling issues with the car which meant I couldn't register/license it.
I am still waiting to hear back from Chris who has first dibs on the setup which he's looking to swap into his CRX. The head gasket is leaking though, so it should be changed before someone uses it. After that it will be good to go.
Back to updates:
Now I am done filling the holes I wanted to fill, but I still need to finish smoothing things out a bit.

Made a little spray booth in the garage.
http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/ac69/rraisedhaze/photobucket-5755-1327894509866.jpg
Then I sprayed primer, base and clear to get this:
(I am in no way a professional painter, but I figured I can always keep the hood closed if I mess this up)
Prepped:
http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/ac69/rraisedhaze/photobucket-849-1327894446181.jpg
Primed:
http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/ac69/rraisedhaze/2012-01-29_09-56-47_734.jpg
I didn't get a picture after base coat since I only had like 25 minutes to get ready to clear and that meant I had to quickly clean up and change over the spray gun to clear coat.
Cleared:
http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/ac69/rraisedhaze/2012-01-30_06-31-48_269.jpg
It did this in a couple spots since I was too quick to re-coat, so I will wet-sand and reapply clear this week to get it perfect:

I used 600 then 1000 grit. It was all wet sanded by hand then cleaned off followed by tack cloth. After that I re-sprayed with another coat of clear.
It's possible to just buff the scratches out after wet sanding, but it was way easier to just clean it off and re-spray with all the crazy angles in the bay.
I think I'll do this one more time since I didn't get all the wrinkle/nastiness out yet.

There are still some spots with debris and imperfections from a screw up during painting, but I tested out wet sanding then buffing last night (All by hand) with 2500 grit followed by 3000 grit and it polishes up REALLY NICE with some rubbing compound. I'll take pictures when I get it all done which wont be for a while.

In 40 days, we will probably still have salt on the roads. I don't think I'm going to drive this until we get a good hard rain to clean off the roads. Maybe I'll take my RR though. :monster:

Lots of progress this weekend. The motor is in, but the valve cover is off since I sent it away to get powder coated. I also got the shift linkage fit, axles in, exhaust lengthened and started fabricating the radiator bracket. I also fit the one bronze wheel I had and kind of like it.

I ordered the fuel fitting for the supply hard-line to -6 AN and the Odyssey PC680 battery this week. All I have left to do on it before I get to hear it purr is:
Make Radiator bracket.
Fit battery and power wire. Includes making a bracket.
Finish extending and routing chassis harness tuck.
Plug in engine harness.
Fill engine and tranny with oil.
Put interior back together enough so I have an ignition switch.
Sit back and enjoy!

Aside from the Lightspeed 24mm torsion bars up front, I'll have Koni Yellow and Ground control (Coil-over sleeves are for rear only) I searched long and hard before I found them (used unfortunately) since everything for this car has been discontinued long ago.
Who are we kidding, it's a1.8L :p
:lolhit: Traction won't be an issue with the motor N/A, but I think 300-350 whp boosted might be. All in due time my friend.

I still might snag a set of those eventually, but I've heard that the Koni's are still the best option and those are a close second. I jumped on the opportunity when I found a set. I don't really plan to track this thing though. It is mostly a nostalgia collector for me, but I want it to be a fun car after all.

Made big progress today got the turbo mounted which ended up being a bitch. switching from the evo8 to the evo9 the compressor housing is much bigger so we ran into all kinds of problems. the inlet for the turbo was resting on the bleeder for the slave cylinder and the waste gate linkage was touching the block. took some grinding and bending to fit it correctly but now fits perfect.
