Car: 98 Honda civic with OBD2A wiring, stock, no hacking, splicing except OBD1 injector clips and 3BAR map
Engine: OBD2B B16A short block/OBD2A GSR head, turbo,
ECU: HandCommand P28 Hondata S300 with jumper harness
Tuned: Jordan @ MAP(not the problem) lol.

History briefing: Car was running well, but once in a while the car would misfire. The timing light wouldn't flicker like it should when checking the timing. So, I bought a brand new Honda cap and rotor, new spark plugs (gapped), and new NGK plug wires. Still the timing gun wouldn't work properly. Tested gun on different car, no problem. Had the car started one day, hoping to go for a joy ride in the country side, and at the bottom of the driveway, the car stalls out, and couldn't get her started.

I thought I had a distributor problem. I picked up a new/reman distributor today and still have a problem. The fuel pump was not priming either. I tested two different relays, and they both work, and tested the fuel pump, and that works. No sparks at the plugs.

So, I tested with a stock p28 and everything works, cranks, and almost started. Sparks at the plugs, and fuel pump primes.

I put the p28/Hondata s300 unit back in, no sparks, no fuel.

Secondly, the p28/Hondata s300 green light doesn't light up, so I fear something happened to the ecu. I don't know what could have happened, but I'll try contacting Hondata to see if there's anything they can help me with.

If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated. I think I got all the details, but if I missed anything, please advise.

Thanks in advance.

sound like the ecu is bad or else like what vtecstyle say, check if you smell anything from the ecu and check the pin if there plug in all the way.

the top cover of ecu has plexiglass, and i don't see anything apparently wrong with the ecu, but i'll have a closer look tomorrow. I really hope it isn't fried cause man Uncle Sam aint got another s300 in budget.

C14 is bad. I don't know if it can be replaced but I at least know its not the s300 unit. Thank goodness.

I have them if it didn't damage anything else, that was my guess from the start.

Please PM me your number, and I will give you a call while I'm in Minnesota this week. I wasn't sure they could be replaced, heck, it's worth a shot if it's only a few bucks. Better than buying a whole new ecu.

I'm leaning towad ecu as well.
The s300's are pretty rugged.
Know anyone with one that you could swap yours into their ecu?

Most important is to figure out what caused your current ecu to die.
Nothing like plugging in a replacement, and cooking that one too.

Excellent deduction there.....
